Burgundian Period (1384 - 1482)

The disgruntled people of Ghent claimed that Archduke Maximilian was not their sovereign, but their sovereign's husband, Marie de Bourgogne. They claimed as a privilege acquired in their city, that the children of their princes should be brought up in Ghent.

On February 6, 1481, a messenger came from Maximilien to summon the lords of Hoves, Hembise, Irchonwelz, Ligne, Lombise, Louvignies, Neufvilles and Montigny. (Archives of Lille).
